Being a Brit you would think that I would have realized this fact a long time ago. However you never really appreciate anything until it is no longer there. Since moving to Texas I’ve had more scorching days of unbearably hot weather, than the cool rainy days of home. It’s amazing what you miss. Okay so back in Britain I would usually complain about the rain and pray for sunshine, but the Texas sun can be a bit much for me so now I find myself praying for rain.
Last week and this week my prayers have been heard. It’s been raining like cats and dogs pretty much for 2 weeks. Of course the downside of this is an increase of flash floods in the area, but the good thing is my lawn no longer looks like kindling.
Today I had the absurd urge to go stand outside for a few minutes in the middle of a downpour. I am now cold, wet, wrapped in my dressing gown and feeling very light hearted. Everyone should stand in the rain. It’s is nature’s very own shower system. Very refreshing and I guarantee you’ll be giggling like school kids.
It makes me very nostalgic for home though. Even though I am now a US Citizen and honorary Texan for 4.5 years, Britain will always be home. One day I may move back, unless I can convince my hubby to move to a state over here that has better rainfall, bigger trees and fewer scorpions. I’ve heard Oregon is nice …. And I have a hankering to visit the Smokey Mountains and the Appalachians. Hmmmmm. There’s something about mountains that I love too … but that has nothing to do with rain, which is the subject of this blog post. I think.
Anyway, so yes. I love the rain. I like kittens too.
